Two Pitchers Work Together as the Cougars Defeat Gonzales in Shut-Out

The SLV Cougars defeated Gonzales 11-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout on the day. Jalie Edgemon struck out Desiree Bustanti to finish off the game.

Madison Reger got things started in the first inning when the SLV starter drew a walk and scoring one run.

The Cougars notched five runs in the third inning. Several batters contributing to the big inning including Alura Neill, Jami Van Eyck, and Kristen Miller, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Neill led the Cougars in hits by going 3-for-3 at the plate and drawing a walk. Neill went deep in the third for 3 RBI’s with SLV’s only home run.

A single by Aleena Fiero in the fourth inning was a positive for Gonzales.

Reger took the win for the Cougars. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out six and walking one. Edgemon threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Edgemon recorded the last six outs to earn the save for SLV.

Sophia Prieto took the loss for Gonzales. She lasted four innings, allowing 13 hits and 11 runs while striking out one.

Overall, the Cougars collected 13 hits on the day. Neill, Hailey Lang, and Van Eyck all managed multiple hits for SLV.
