Angie Fulkerson drove in seven runs on three hits to lead San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars past Aptos 11-9 on Tuesday. Fulkerson hit a home run to center field in the third scoring three, doubled in the sixth scoring three, and singled in the fourth scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars collected 10 hits and Aptos 14 in the high-scoring affair.
A line out by Grace Purtscher put San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars on the board in the bottom of the first.
Aptos flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Kailani Aguayo that drove in two.
Fulkerson homered to center field following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars tie the game at five in the bottom of the third.
A single by Fulkerson gave San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fourth.
Aptos jumped into the lead in the top of the sixth when Emma Burqueno doubled, scoring two runs, and Nova Neu hit into a double play, but one run scored.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars captured the lead, 11-9, in the bottom of the sixth when Fulkerson doubled, scoring three runs, and Bailey Filice grounded out, scoring one run.
Purtscher earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The righty allowed 14 hits and eight runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Mya Najera-White took the loss for Aptos. The starting pitcher went six innings, surrendering 11 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking four.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars collected 10 hits in the game. Purtscher and Fulkerson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars while hitting back-to-back. Sophia Sarmiento collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in four at bats. San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars turned one double play in the game. San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Audrey Jouglet had the most chances in the field with 10.
Aptos accumulated 14 hits in the game. Burqueno drove the middle of the lineup, leading Aptos with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 4-for-4 on the day. Gwen Vaca, Neu, Bailey Fulton, and Aguayo each collected multiple hits for Aptos.
