San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars Vanquish Soquel Varsity Knights In High-Scoring Affair

There were runs aplenty on Tuesday, as San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars defeated Soquel Varsity Knights 15-9. San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars collected 17 hits, while Soquel Varsity Knights had eight.

Elie Colby collected three hits in five at bats in the win. Colby doubled in the fourth inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the first inning.

San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Grace Purtscher singled, scoring one run, Maddy Murphy singled, scoring two runs, Brooke Reed doubled, scoring two runs, and Colby singled, scoring one run.

San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars added two runs in the third. Purtscher doubled to right field, making the score 7-1.

Soquel Varsity Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Kate Silva.

Soquel Varsity Knights scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kylie South tripled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, a wild pitch scored one run, and Silva drew a walk, scoring one run.

Purtscher earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Emma Niizawa took the loss for Soquel Varsity Knights. The starter went seven innings, giving up 14 runs (10 earned) on 17 hits, striking out seven and walking three. Bailey Filice stepped in the circle first for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The hurler gave up eight hits and nine runs (seven earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three.

San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars collected 17 hits in the game. Angie Fulkerson went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in hits. Purtscher, Fulkerson, Reed, and Colby each drove in two runs for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Abi Krepelka collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in two at bats. San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars stole five bases in the game. San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars turned one double play in the game.

Silva went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Soquel Varsity Knights stole four bases in the game. Soquel Varsity Knights turned one double play in the game.
