
SLV watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-1 loss to St. Francis of Watsonville on Saturday. The Sharks took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
SLV struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Sharks, giving up seven runs.
St. Francis got on the board in the first inning. Mariah Montalvo drove in two when Montalvo homered.
St. Francis scored three runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by the Sharks was led by Demaria Bolden and Alicia Mendez, who all drove in runs.
Mendez got the win for the Sharks. Mendez allowed four hits and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Amelia Sizemore took the loss for SLV. The righty went four and a third innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out four.
St. Francis smacked two home runs on the day. Montalvo put one out in the first inning. Bolden went deep in the second inning.
Alyssa Struthers led SLV with two hits in three at bats.
Mendez went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead St. Francis in hits. The Sharks were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Sabrina Noto made the most plays with six.
