SLV Cougars fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 2-0 loss to Belmont Powerhouse Carlmont on Saturday.
Carlmont took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Carlmont pitchers struck out eight, while the Cougars sat down two.
Carlmont got things started in the first inning. M Mclemore’s sac fly scored one run for Carlmont.
A double by Alura Neill in the second inning was a positive for the Cougars.
Mclemore got the win for Carlmont. She surrendered zero runs on one hit over two innings, striking out three and walking zero. S Carahiaho threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Ashley Welch took the loss for SLV. She surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Neill went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Cougars in hits.
T Wise led Carlmont with three hits in four at bats.
