Four hits from Zoe Mendez paved the way to victory for SLV over Leigh 9-1 on Saturday. Mendez singled in the first, singled in the third, tripled in the fourth, and tripled in the sixth.
The Cougars got things moving in the first inning. SLV scored one run when Mendez singled.
SLV notched three runs in the sixth inning. Alura Neill and Jami Van Eyck all drove in runs in the frame.
Ashley Welch was the winning pitcher for SLV. She pitched six innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out three and walking one.
Chelsea R. took the loss for Leigh. She lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs while striking out three and walking one.
The Cougars totaled 13 hits. Mendez, Van Eyck, and Welch all managed multiple hits for SLV. Mendez went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cougars in hits.
Rachel M led Leigh high with two hits in three at bats.
