Both teams were strong in the circle on Tuesday, but Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Grace Purtscher started the game for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars and recorded 20 outs.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got on the board in the third inning after Sophia Sarmiento singled, scoring one run.
Taylor Wilson singled down the left field line on a full count, which helped Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
A solo home run to center field by Angie Fulkerson gave San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth.
Jazzy Doubek singled down the right field line, which helped Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons tie the game at two in the bottom of the seventh.
Sofie Seese earned the win for Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons. The lefty gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none. Purtscher took the loss for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The starting pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three.
Elie Colby led San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position. Fulkerson and Sarmiento each drove in one run for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars.
Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons collected 11 hits in the game. Wilson and Doubek were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons. Gracie Delgado went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons in hits. Nick Powell collected two hits for Scotts Valley Varsity Falcons in three at bats.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars welcome Aptos on Tuesday for their next game.
