San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars won big over Harbor 16-2 on Thursday.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Sophia Sarmiento hit a sacrifice fly, Harbor committed an error, and Bailey Filice doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Sarmiento was struck by a pitch, Savanah Robertson was struck by a pitch, Filice walked, Ray Alvarez walked, and Brooke Reed walked, each scoring one run.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars scored eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Grace Purtscher doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Filice singled, scoring one run, Audrey Jouglet singled, scoring one run, Elie Colby singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Purtscher singled, scoring one run.
Colby earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The starter allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking one. Leah Heitmann took the loss for Harbor. The starter went two innings, giving up 13 runs (five earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking seven. Robertson appeared in relief for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars.
Filice went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in hits. Purtscher, Filice, and Sarmiento each drove in three runs for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Reed led San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.
Number eight hitter, Hana Pomrantz, showed the depth of Harbor’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Juliet Ray and Heitmann were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Harbor.
