San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got out to a 4-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 5-4 victory over Soquel Varsity Knights on Thursday. Soquel Varsity Knights closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, and a double.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Angie Fulkerson grounded out, Soquel Varsity Knights committed an error, and Ray Alvarez singled to right field, each scoring one run.
Cheyenne Owen hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth for the San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars.
Grace Purtscher earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The pitcher gave up four hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Emma Niizawa took the loss for Soquel Varsity Knights. The starter went four innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking two. Bailey Filice collected the save.
Owen, Fulkerson, and Elie Colby each collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Owen, Abi Krepelka, Alvarez, and Fulkerson each drove in one run for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars.
Ellie Howell went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Keilana Torres went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Soquel Varsity Knights in hits. Eliza Stevens collected three hits for Soquel Varsity Knights in four at bats. Evelyn Eslit Mcdow paced Soquel Varsity Knights with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. Soquel Varsity Knights turned one double play in the game.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars welcome Aptos on Tuesday for their next game.
