Aptos defeated San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars 9-2 on Thursday thanks in part to seven runs in the second inning.
Aptos were the first to get on the board in the first when Emma Burqueno homered to right field, scoring two runs.
Abi Krepelka homered to center field, which helped San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars tie the game at two in the top of the second.
Aptos flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-2. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Mya Najera-White earned the win for Aptos. The pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Grace Purtscher pitched four innings in relief for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs while, striking out one and walking one. Krepelka took the loss for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The hurler went two innings, giving up nine runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking three.
Krepelka and Sophia Sarmiento were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars while hitting back-to-back. Krepelka led San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day.
Burqueno provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Aptos with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Burqueno and Makenzie Lashley each collected two hits for Aptos. Aptos turned one double play in the game.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars will travel to Harbor for their next game on Tuesday.
