San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars bested Aptos 5-3 on Tuesday.
Aptos opened the scoring in the first after Kailani Aguayo singled, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the first inning, San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars went back into the lead after Elie Colby scored after tagging up, Angie Fulkerson singled to center field, and Sophia Sarmiento singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars dropped a third strike, which helped Aptos tie the game at three in the top of the fifth.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Colby doubled to left field, and Cheyenne Owen tripled to right field, each scoring one run.
Abi Krepelka earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking none. Mya Najera-White took the loss for Aptos. The starter went six innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, striking out four and walking two.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars tallied 11 hits in the game. Owen, Sarmiento, and Colby each collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Owen, Grace Purtscher, Fulkerson, Sarmiento, and Colby each drove in one run for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Sarmiento stole two bases.
Aguayo led Aptos with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Gwen Vaca and Aguayo each collected two hits for Aptos. Bailey Fulton stole two bases. Aptos turned one double play in the game.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars play at home on Thursday against Harbor in their next game.
