San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars easily dispatched North Monterey County on Tuesday, 19-4.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run.
P Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly, which helped North Monterey County tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars took the lead in the top of the second. Cheyenne Owen singled, scoring two runs, to give San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars the edge, 3-1.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars added two runs in the third after Maddy Murphy doubled to left field.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Grace Purtscher singled, scoring one run, Savanah Robertson doubled, scoring three runs, Audrey Jouglet singled, scoring one run, Abi Krepelka singled, scoring one run, Brooke Reed singled, scoring one run, and Angie Fulkerson drew a walk, scoring one run.
Purtscher earned the win for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. The pitcher surrendered four hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking six. Ramirez took the loss for North Monterey County. The starter went six innings, giving up 19 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits, striking out three and walking 10.
San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars tallied 14 hits in the game. Purtscher went 3-for-6 at the plate to lead San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in hits. Murphy and Robertson each drove in three runs for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars. Owen collected two hits for San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars in two at bats. Fulkerson paced San Lorenzo Valley Varsity Cougars with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game.
S Scharton, A Jiminez, C Valle, and J Ortiz each collected one hit for North Monterey County. Scharton and Ramirez were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for North Monterey County. J Paniagua led North Monterey County with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Paniagua stole two bases.
