SLV Defeats Santa Cruz Despite Allowing 3-Run Inning

The Cougars managed through a push by Santa Cruz in the fifth inning where SLV coughed up three runs, but the Cougars still won 16-5 on Friday. Santa Cruz scored its runs on a home run by Emily Harms.

SLV got on the board in the first inning scoring one run when Zoe Mendez singled.

SLV notched eight runs in the fourth inning. Katrina Heinemann, Courtney Carter, Alura Neill, Mendez, and Heinemann each drove in runs during the inning.

Carter was the winning pitcher for SLV. She lasted three innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one. Jalie Edgemon threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Jessica Fairlie took the loss for Santa Cruz. She went three innings, allowing 11 runs on six hits.

The Cougars tallied ten hits on the day. Mendez and Heinemann all managed multiple hits for SLV. Heinemann and Mendez all had two hits to lead the Cougars. The Cougar defense didn’t commit a single error in the field. Mendez had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Harms led Santa Cruz with two hits in three at bats.
