Welcome to the 2011 Season
On behalf of our entire team and coaching staff I want to welcome you to the upcoming 2011 season. Our belief is that we’ll continue to learn the game of softball and compete our best on a day-by-day basis. We look forward to you joining us.
SLV Girls Softball and the middle school program has done a tremendous job of promoting our sport. As a result we have a large incoming Freshman class who have shown an interest in playing this spring. If this number holds true we’ll consider adding a Frosh-Only squad in the spring. This team will play other teams in San Jose and participate in local tournaments to fill out their schedule. Be sure to contact us if you haven’t already regarding our Freshman team.
Here are a few things for you to consider this off season:
• Our primary form of communication is through our email list and the slvsoftball.com team website. Athletes, parents and others are encouraged to sign up. To join, send an email to list@slvsoftball.com with the words “subscribe info-list” in the body of the message.
• We encourage athletes to join the functional movement, speed and strength classes offered at the school on Monday and Wednesday evenings. These workouts are not sport specific and will improve overall fitness for all athletes.
• The pitching distance for high school has changed to 43 feet. Incoming Freshman will need to make this adjustment. It is recommend that you begin to throw a few times per week during the winter months in order to prepare for the regular season.
What Can You Do Now?
PLAY CATCH & THROW -This is the most important skill you can have. Try to do this at least 3 times per week for 10-15 minutes. Increase time and distance as you build strength. Stop if you feel soreness.
JUMP ROPE – Jump rope for 60 jumps and rest for 30 seconds between sets. Work up to 10 sets 3 times per week.
LUNGES – Do 3-5 sets of Lunges for 30 feet to build strength in your legs.
PUSH UPS – Work towards 3 sets of 12. Do this 3 times per week. It is OK to be on your knees in the beginning.
SPRINTS – Home to 1st, Home to 2nd, Home to 3rd and Home to Home.
