A Way We Honor the Game
[caption id="attachment_339" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Trash"][/caption] We honor the game in a variety of ways. For us, having the best softball field in the county is one of the ways we develop a sense of pride in our field and our school. We work very hard on the field and spend a considerable amount of money keeping the fields in the best shape we can. Just as football players are proud of their home turf, our athletes are proud and care about the way their field looks and plays. Our coaches find that a field in great shape gives us a positive environment ...

Graniterock Helps Us Out
We've been spending a great deal of time working on our Varsity field this fall. The majority of our project has been funded by money raised by our student athletes over the past 12 months. It really helps when we get an organization from the community to donate materials or expertise. SLV Softball recently received a generous donation from Graniterock in the form of crushed granite for our infield. In addition to the material from their Aromas quarry Graniterock included delivery, a $1000 value, with their donation. We asked for a donation of materials and/or transportation and Graniterock donated the entire ...
Checking up on Samantha Lipperd
It's encouraging to hear from former players and see them express their willingness to give back to the younger players. I've heard some really nice things about Samantha and thought she might want to share a little experience with our current team. Here is what she had to say. I came up here [Sonoma State] expecting a crazy, intense experience, and that's exactly what I got. After living up here and playing with these girls I have already learned so much about life. The whole experience of college athletics can be very stressful because it is another part of your life ...

She recently hit her first collegiate home run and played against Stanford this past weekend. I recently asked her how she was doing and she simply replied "Softball is way harder then I thought it was going to be!".

Field Maintenance
We're embarking on an ambitious field maintenance plan beginning in 2009 for the 2010 season. Current financial conditions in the district have forced cuts in all areas including maintenance. We're working with the maintenance department to identify areas where coaches and parent volunteers can assist in field upgrades and repair. Here is a list of items we are planning to complete before the 2010 season. Paint scoreboard Repair and/or replace unusable JV backstop Repair and paint equipment shed. Repair the infield grass arc and prepare for 40' [43' in 2011] pitching distance. Level the transition from the infield to the outfield grass Repair and/or replace wood ...
